Llanelli were denied the derby spoils as Carmarthen Quins snatched victory with a try in the final play of a pulsating Indigo Premiership contest.
The visitors led 27-15 going into the final exchanges, but couldn’t repel a spirited Quins side with wing Kalum Evans diving over in the corner in the final minute to give his side their first victory of the campaign.
It was Llanelli who opened the scoring when second row Christian Long crossed for a try converted by fly-half Josh Phillips, who added a penalty to extend the lead to 10-0.
Quins hit back with a try from wing Evans and a penalty from fly-half Steff Marshall and it was the home side who went in at the break with a 15-10 advantage after second row Ryan Bean crossed for a converted score.
After Quins wing Evans was sin-binned following a number of home infringements, Llanelli wing Jac Davies pounced for a quickfire double. And Llanelli were celebrating the bonus-point score on 53 minutes when back-rower Nathan Hart crossed following a line-out rumble.
Replacement Jac Wilson finished off a superb attack for the Quins to ignite the comeback and a Wilson penalty set up the dramatic finale which saw Evans finish off a concerted period of pressure on the Llanelli line.
Llanelli will look to pick themselves up before taking on Cardiff at Parc y Scarlets a week on Tuesday (October 18).
