Disappointing Loss to Ravens

Final Score Llanelli 18 – 21 Bridgend

Llanelli missed a golden opportunity near the end of the game when they lost the ball on the Bridgend try line. The visitors won the ensuing scrum and closed the game out for the win. The game itself was very much a stop start affair with both sides conceding numerous penalties all throughout the eighty. Llanelli got on the score sheet first when hooker Morgan Macrae bundled over from a 5 metre lineout/maul . He got on the score sheet again with his second try, this time wideout on 30mins. Llanelli led 10-0 at this point. Then a series of penalties resulted in Bridgend piling on the pressure. From a 5 metre lineout the visitors got their first try when Lee Murphy crashed over. Macrae then got yellow carded for collapsing a maul just before the half ended. HT Llanelli 10-5 Bridgend. The visitors took the lead at the start of the second half. Llanelli failed to take the kick off, and from phase one scrum ball wing Tom Florence crossed for the try, Matthew Jones then added the conversion. A few minutes later the visitors were caught offside in mid field 20metres out. Full back Josh Phillips slotted the penalty to regain the lead 13-12. The home side once again failed to take the restart and this time Llanelli backs were pinged for offside. Jones had the easy kick in front of the posts to regain the lead for the visitors. A few minutes later it was ‘de-javu’ Llanelli caught offside resulted in Bridgend extending their lead with a well struck penalty from outside half Jones. Llanelli scores their third try to level the scores on the hour mark. Neat interplay saw scrum half Archie Hughes hauled down just short of the line but from the resulting ruck the ball was moved to outside half Ioan Hughes who crossed for the try. All to play for going into the final 15mins with both sides moving the ball out wide when opportunities came.  On 68 mins a second yellow for Llanelli for a high tackle by No8 Elis Hopkins saw the visitors regain the lead with Matthew Jones once again slotting the goal. A frantic end to end final few minutes ended with the missed opportunity for the home side. They go again next week at Llandovery.
