Team announcement: Fisher puts faith in future talent

Head Coach Paul Fisher has named his side to take on Bridgend Ravens tomorrow, Saturday 25th September, kick-off 2.30pm.

Llanelli will make a welcome return to the more familiar surroundings of Parc y Scarlets after an almost 18-month hiatus.

Last weekend’s defeat, away to Aberavon, will only act as added motivation as the side looks to get its home form off to a winning start.

Fisher has made three changes to the starting XV that took on Aberavon at the Talbot Athletic Ground last weekend. Scarlets tighthead prop Alex Jeffries comes into the front row, alongside hooker Morgan MacRae and captain Dylan Evans. Ryan Jenkins replaces Ellis Thomas at number 8 with Eray Wilson given an opportunity on the wing, having featured from the replacements bench last weekend.

Looking ahead to the game head coach Paul Fisher said; “Aberavon were strong in the scrum last week and we’ll be looking to get some more possession tomorrow. It’s our first home game at Parc y Scarlets and we want to play with more tempo.

“We’ve trained to play a style of rugby that suits the fantastic ground here at the Parc and it’s definitely an incentive and a boost for the team to be returning home.

“We have bought into, and pride ourselves on, giving young players in the pathway an opportunity to play regular senior rugby. Tomorrow’s matchday 23 includes no less than four Scarlets Academy players (Archie, Josh, Sam and Harry) as well as 18-year old flanker Caine Rees-Jones.

“They bring with them a lot of energy and enthusiasm which undoubtedly lifts the squad as a whole.”
