Llanelli head to The Wern on Saturday to take on Dale McIntosh’s Merthyr side, just days after the announcement that the coaching set-up under his leadership will step down at the end of this season.
Newport continued their winning run, currently six from six, in the Indigo Premiership last weekend but a determined effort, and a desire to stay in the game until the bitter end, saw Llanelli come away with a try bonus.
The all-important point sees Llanelli move to ninth position in the table, however Swansea, Ebbw Vale and Bridgend Ravens who make up the lower third of the table all have a game in hand.
Merthyr, currently fifth, are hot on the heels of Carmarthen Quins and RGC who are only two and three points ahead, respectively.
