Bonus Win at Ebbw

Full time result Ebbw Vale 10-29 Llanelli

The boys secured their first league win with a dominant display at Eugene Cross Park. On a very wet afternoon Llanelli played with the elements in the first half and although they dominated the half they managed just two tries to go in 12-3 at the break. They scored the opening try with the first play when a counter attack saw wing Aaron Grabbam race away to cross in the corner. A few minutes later the home side slotted a penalty goal when the visitors were caught offside at a ruck, full back Dan Haymond scoring. Back came Llanelli and on 13 mins wing Kalum Evans found space to cross for the second try, Ioan Hughes added the extras. With a strong wind at their backs the visitors dominated territory but spurned numerous chances to put further scores on the board.

The home scored scored a fine try after 46 mins when Ewan Rosser crossed under the posts, Haymond added the extras and it was very much game on. Ebbw Vale 10-12 Llanelli.

Any hope Ebbw had of getting back into the game evaporated over the next five minutes. Making his debut for Llanelli, scrum half Dane Blacker scored two tries, again Hughes slotting both conversions. A further penalty goal just after the hour mark by Ioan Hughes extended the visitors lead.

The final quarter saw Ebbw trying to claw back the scoreline but too many errors meant they weren’t able to break down Llanelli’s defence.

In the end a very good allround performance and a much needed win.
