R I P Ian McGregor

By Ian Davies | 01/12/2016

Dear Colleague

It is with regret that I have to inform you of the passing away of Ian McGregor. Ian played for Llanelli for two seasons back in the 1950’s whilst serving with the RAF and stationed at Pembrey and was indeed capped for Scotland from the club.Ian went on to play nine times for Scotland at wing forward.

After his playing days Ian served on the committee of Glasgow Academicals and then the Scottish Rugby Union from 1975 until his retirement in 1989.

During his time on the Union he was manager of Scotland's touring team to Australia in 1982, convener of the selection committee in the Grand Slam season two years later, and, eventually chaired the laws and coaching committees,

I am reliably informed that Ian much enjoyed his time in Wales and until his death maintained friendships and a deep fondness for Wales and Llanelli RFC.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Calum and Graeme, and to all of Ian's family and friends.
