Match Report

Home Defeat by Ravens

The Ravens continued their recent upsurge by taking the spoils at Parc-y-Scarlets in a very close and exciting game. Llanelli were penalised throughout the game by referee Aled Liddington and in the end a yellow card to skipper Nathan Hart gave Bridgend the opportunity to strike. With minutes remaining and the home side holding a 4 point advantage at 22-18 the yellow card saw the Ravens camped on Llanelli's goal line and in the end lock forward Shaun O'rourke was on hand to score the winning try. It was tough on Llanelli but this was a game where both sides played their part to entertain the mid week crowd.
The first score didn't come until the 19th minute when a mid field error by the home side resulted in a run in by centre Stuart Ellis, Ryan Evans slottted the extras to open up a 7 pt advantage. To compound the mistake, straight from the restart, space on the narrow side was exploited to the full and Ravens full back Jonny Phillips touched down for the visitors second try. At this point the Ravens were well on top and pressed for a third try but solid defensive work saw a crucial turnover by Ben Leung to ease the pressure. Almost immediately Llanelli got on the scoresheet when wing threequarter Matthew Jenkins crossed for what was to be a hat trick of tries. Five minutes later, on 33 mins solid pressure on the Ravens tryline enabled the winger to cross for his second try. Then a big moment on half time, with the home side pressing for a third try, they were awarded a penalty five meters out under the Bridgend posts. They opted for the scrum which had been going well throughout the half but were penalised for wheeling, a big call by the ref! At the half Llanelli 10-12 Bridgend.
The third quarter saw the visitors up the pressure yet again and with Outside half Ryan Evans kicking two penalties and eight point gap opened up. Then Llanelli came to life and scored two tries in five minutes to turn the game on its head. Matthew crossed for his third and then on 65mins skipped Nathan Hart powered over to see the home side go in front for the first time in the match.
Replacements were then made on both sides and the biggest cheer of the night came when long time favourite Jonny Lewis came on for his first game time this season after a serious injury. Then Llanelli saw the wrong side of the ref again, conceded field position and paid the price.
Final Score Llanelli 22-25 Bridgend
