Pontypridd 59 Llanelli 14
The Llanelli semi pro squad was tested to the full in this Principality Premiership clash at Sardis Road. With a number of boys missing, involved with the U20's and the Scarlets it meant that a number of local clubs were called on to allow permitted players to put the Llanelli shirt on. To a man they all worked hard but in the end it was the pace and power of the home side that prevailed on a very cold night.
llanelli dominated the early exchanges and were well worth their early lead when Full back Leon Randell crossed for the games first try. The home side then created some good opportunities particularly when counter attacking. The visitors were caught narrow on a couple of occasions and were duly punished. Tries from Alex Webber, Dale Stuckey and no.8 Hugh Barnes opened up a 10 pt advantage. But on 34mins a nice series of plays involving both forwards and backs saw wing Ryan Davies cross for the visitors 2nd try. With Outside half Lewis Williams slotting both conversions it was 'game on'. Just on half Time wing Kalum Evans was yellow carded for a deliberate knock on - Ponty took full advantage and outside half nipped in to score the home sides 4th try.
at the half Pontypridd 24 Llanelli 14
Pontypridd crossed for further tries in the second half as Llanelli ran out of steam late on. Second row Chris Diicomedis had an excellent game all round and capped it off by scoring 2tries, Alex Webber crossed his second, while replacements Wayne Evans and Hugh Dowden completed the scoring.
In the end, an emphatic home win but the Llanelli coaches can build on their strong scrum and will have to work on improving the lineout ahead of the fixture against the Quins next Saturday.
