Llanelli won their inaugural Fosters Challenge Cup match against Group opponents Neath at Parc Y Scarlets last night.
Llanelli were captained by outside half Gareth Walters, that included several new young players on show.
Young full back Ryan Davies opened up the tight Neath defence with a lovely angled entry into the line, a perfect pass to Felinfoel speedster Elliot Dawe who finished the move off for an excellent try after just 5 minutes. Captain Walters duly converted for an early 8-0 lead.
The impressive Trystan Lloyd got Llanelli’s second try midway through the half and despite lots of territorial position and possession the score remained at 14-0 until half time.
The second half proved something of a stalemate with both sides applying lots of pressure in their oppositions 22 only for composure and discipline costing both teams.
The spectators had a long wait for wait for the next score and it was Neath who got it with the last play of the game. With Llanelli attacking deep in the Neath 22 a turnover and a great breakaway run out of defence saw tenacious centre Dean Howell on hand to score under the posts which was converted by outside half Iwan Evans.
