This match may have been evenly balanced at half time but Cross Keys overwhelmed their visitors after the restart to claim their second convincing victory in as many weeks.
It was Keys who opened the scoring quarter of an hour into the game. Opting for a scrum from a penalty in their opponents’ 22 their pack powered their way over the line, No 8 Adam Powell claiming the touchdown.
It may have been a forward effort that gave the home side the lead but the visitors largely relied on their backs to level things up in the 23rd minute. With centre Nathan Edwards making the initial run, Keys wing Elliott Jones just failed to intercept the piece that set up his opposite number Andrew Spowart for the try.
It was a fifteen man effort that restored the Cross Keys lead 10 minutes later with scrum half James Leadbetter finally going through unopposed from a ruck inside the visitors’ 22.
Just before the interval Llanelli levelled things up once again. They opted for a kick to touch from a penalty in the home 22. They secured possession from the lineout and, 10 phases later, prop Rhys Thomas crashed over the line.
Keys’ Captain Leon Andrews exploited some confusion in the Llanelli defence to re-establish his side’s lead soon after the restart with outside half Josh Prosser intercepting a pass close to his own 10 metre line soon afterwards and running it back to extend the advantage.
Two tries for flanker Scott Matthews followed before Llanelli took advantage of a yellow card for Cross Keys prop Leon Brown, their replacement prop Ben Leung claiming a try. Hopes of even a losing bonus point evaporated, however, when a try for replacement prop Anthony Lott notched up the half century while full back Ethan Davies claimed his side’s eighth try on the stroke of full time
