Llanelli RFC 37-42 Bedwas RFC
It was the away side who came out on top in an 11-try thriller in West Wales
Bedwas held on to win an 11-try Welsh Premiership thriller at Parc y Scarlets to end a three-match losing streak.
Bedwas celebrated a bonus-point win but Llanelli, who have leaked 14 tries in the last two matches after going down 52-24 to Cross Keys in the Welsh Cup, fought back in the second half to take two bonus points of their own.
Injury-hit Llanelli would have been delighted to trail by only 23-20 in an open first half during which the lead changed hands five times.
Aaron Pinches scored Bedwas’ first try, but despite Bedwas’ dominance, wing Frazier Climo ran in from 40 metres for a converted try.
Llanelli scrum-half Justin James grabbed a try from a kick-and-chase to the line, a score which came against the run of play after Roy Osborn received a yellow card.
But Bedwas dominated the latter part of the half with tries for Harley Thomson and Ashton Hewitt before Llanelli reduced the deficit to three points with Lewis’ second penalty.
And the visitors had a bonus point in the bag when Rory Budina and Luke Crane weaved their way over.
Llanelli hit back with three tries in 19 minutes from Lewis, Tom Phillips and Adam Williams-Parry, but in between that scoring sequence Bedwas’ sixth try came through Deri Mattravers.
The effort from the veteran forward proved to be the crucial score as Bedwas came away with victory.
