Match Report

Bonus point home win

Llanelli leapt into the top half of the Principality Premiership table as they overcame Bridgend in an eleven try festive cracker at Parc Y Scarlets.

Only one place and two points separated the teams at the start of the day but Llanelli were by far the better side throughout, despite weathering a ten minute spell of pressure in the second half.

The game belonged to the potent Llanelli backs with winger Kyle Evans bagging a try treble, while full back Jordan Williams stole the show.

The hosts had wrapped up the bonus point touchdown before the break with Jordan Williams heavily involved in the build up to two, while he crossed off his side’s fourth.

A loose clearance kick from the Ravens set the tone of the afternoon as Williams gathered in space, with Welsh International Gareth Davies sending winger Frazier Climo clear after just 38 seconds.

The hosts were once again celebrating moments later after a period of intense pressure on the Ravens line. A cute slip pass from Davies sent flanker Owain Morgan burrowing over before Josh Lewis added the extras and a penalty, as Anthony Buchanan’s men stretched their lead to 15-0.

The Ravens showed little imagination behind and when winger Evans gathered Williams’ delicate grubber for a third, before a fourth from Williams, it started to become a little embarrassing for the visitors.

But the Ospreylian side did finish the half with a flourish after some indiscipline crept into the Llanelli outfit, prop Gary Carpenter barging over after a five metre catch and drive from the visitors to cut their deficit to 7-27 at the interval.

Prop Ben Leung crossed early on after the break to keep the scoreboard ticking over for the hosts.

However, a number of changes from the home side affected their flow as the Ravens got a finger hold in the game through two quick touchdowns from wingers Mike Powell and Tom O’Flaherty.

But any hopes Bridgend had of mounting a revival were quickly quashed as Evans rounded off his hat-trick and a late Craig Price effort finished off a fine display for the Scarlets side.
