Llanelli entertained Cardiff in the Principality Premiership last night at Parc Y Scarlets.
Both sides had suffered heavy defeats on the previous Saturday and so the stakes were high to get back to winning ways.
Both sides were determined to score tries and opened play up at every opportunity. However, it was a fine penalty from outside half Josh Lewis who opened the scoring after 18 minutes.
Llanelli’s first try did eventually come after 32 minutes when outstanding Stuart Leach broke from a maul 40 metres out to touchdown that Josh converted.
Cardiff responded four minutes later when a stray Steffan Evans pass was intercepted by Luke Ford, who outstripped the cover defence to score that Jack Maynard converted.
Steff Evans, determined to make up for his interception pass, responded with a brilliant 50 metre run and try, which Josh Lewis converted for a 17-7 halftime lead.
Steff Evans followed up with two further gems (44th & 59th minutes) for an impressive Principality Premiership hatrick of tries. In between Steff’s second half tries, ‘old boy’ Ceiron Thomas (a second half replacement for Maynard) kicked a simple penalty.
Fishguard & Goodwick product James Griffiths got the home team’s fifth try with a powerful burst to the try line and replacement Nic Damjanovic sprinted in for Llanelli’s sixth.
Centre Gareth Walters took over the kicking duties for the injured Lewis and duly converted the last two.
To their credit Cardiff finished strongly and were rewarded with with tries from James Loxton and Lewis Smout both converted by Thomas.
