2013/2014 Principality Premiership
Newport 20 v 26 Llanelli
21 September 2013 - Rodney Parade, Newport

Match Report

Second half

Another second half revival was the order of the day for the second week running for Llanelli RFC  at Rodney Parade against Newport in the Principality Premiership.

In another lack lustre first half , outside half Nic Damjanovic kicked three well struck penalties for the visitors to keep them in touch with the home team with the only real highlight being  the 24th minute try for Newport’s young centre Tyler Morgan which was converted by Ethan Davies who also kicked a 14th  minute penalty.

Things did improve in the second half and a good off load from replacement Kirby Myhill sent prop Rhys Thomas in for his team’s first try on 55 minutes which Damjanovic converted from the touchline. With Llanelli now starting to click, some good continuity play resulted in Dan Thomas touching down to extend their lead to 21-10.

Matt O’Brian kicked a good penalty on 70 minutes and five minutes later Llanelli’s Number 8 Stuart Leach received a yellow card for illegally stopping a Newport player from scoring and Referee Simon Rees had no hesitation in awarding a penalty try which O’ Brian converted to bring Newport just a point behind.

So down to 14 men with 5 minutes remaining Llanelli stood up to the challenge and defended heroically and for good measure Llanelli’s Man of the Match Steffan Evans interecepted from the halfway for another good away win.
