A MEMORABLE try by fly-half Jordan Williams clinched Llanelli's place in the Principality Premiership Grand Final against Pontypridd.
Llanelli enjoyed the edge in possession and territory all through, but were hanging on at 22-20 in the last few minutes when under huge pressure from Llandovery.
Storming runs from prop Wyn Jones had got the hosts in sight of a Premiership final, but the Llanelli defence was superbly committed in repelling a series of attacks near their own line.
Play swung down to the home end late in the game and a brilliant kick through, gather and dab down from Wales Under-20s pivot Williams ended a game which delighted Gareth Jenkins, the region's head of regional development and recruitment.
"I was proud to be a Scarlets man and see so many of our promising players show off their skills," he said.
"Llandovery finished second at the end of the regular season, Llanelli third and Carmarthen Quins not far behind in sixth so it has been a great season for the west."
Llanelli pipped Llandovery thanks to an edge in the contact area, where young Daniel Thomas was outstanding. They also boasted a better defence and a more dangerous back division inspired by the dashing Williams at fly-half.
A first-minute interception try from wing Kristian Phillips got Llanelli off to a wonderful start, and they always kept the lead despite the determination of the home side to hang on.
Llanelli were 14-13 up at half-time as a second try from classy centre Nic Reynolds and two conversions by Williams kept them a nose ahead of a try from flanker Shaun Miles and eight points from the boot of fly-half James Garland.
Llanelli went 22-13 ahead with a Williams penalty and Thomas try before the Drovers responded with a converted try from No. 8 Kieran Murphy.
The home side threw everything at their neighbours, with prop Wyn Jones hugely prominent with two charging runs only for the Llanelli defence to hold out.
And it was a piece of lovely skill that did for the hosts when a Williams grubber and scoop off his toes settled the issue.
The fly-half added the conversion to end a terrific local derby.
