Final Score Llanelli 38 Swansea 35

Llanelli earned the point bonus win at Swansea in what turned out to be a try fest of a game. As the final score suggests with 73 pts scored in the game it gives some clue to the entertainment on show at a bitterly cold St Helens.

Swansea began the try fest after five minutes through wing Richard Williams who outstripped the Llanelli defence to score from just about the half way line.

Llanelli responded with two tries in as many minutes with scores from man of the match Dan Thomas and flying wing Kyle Evans. A third try soon followed, and again it came from flanker Thomas that seemed to open the way forward for the West Wales side to push on to a convincing win. Swansea were having none of it, No8 Dan Baker scored the White’s second try to narrow the HT margin to 7 pts. HT Llanelli 19 – 12 Swansea.

Swansea levelled the scores on 52 mins, again coming from the No8 Baker. It was now very much game. It took Llanelli just four minutes to restore their advantage when Thomas claimed his third try of the game and literally from the restart Kyle Evans ran in unopposed to open up a fourteen point advantage. Going into the last quarter Swansea kept plugging away and a series of penalty goals from Nicky Thomas reduced the deficit to just five points. On 71 minutes replacement wing Jamie Thomas ran in for Swansea’s fourth try and with Nicky Thomas slotting the conversion the Whites lead 35 –33. Llanelli finally claimed the winning score on 77mins when Justin James crossed in the corner to claim the points.

With the next game against Bedford in the B&I Qtr finals, Llanelli will have to improve if they’re to threaten the English Championship side.
