Aberavon were the visitors at Parc Y Scarlets in the return Principality Premiership fixture following a heavy defeat at the Talbot Athletic Ground earlier.
Llanelli brought in hookers Aled Williams (Llangennech) and David Littehales (Mumbles) for their debuts and considering they had only one training session both done well, in particular Littehales who replaced Aled in the second half.
Principality Premiership pacesetters Aberavon had the monopoly of possession in the first period and two penalties from Owen Williams, was all the depleted Llanelli team could muster in a very difficult first period. The Wizards jumbo pack dictated from the start and two penalties from Jamie Davies and a try from veteran Nathan Strong, it looked like they were going to stroll the second half with the wind at their backs.
However what a gutsy performance( particularily in the second period ) the Llanelli squad put in to win the four Principality premiership points. Replacement 18 yearld old wing Aaron Evans finished off a fantastic move to score in the right hand corner and replacement Diggy Bird (TaTa Steel) converted beautifully to take a 13 – 11 lead.
Standby Wales 7s scrum half Justin James was again at the top of his game and was rewarded with a fine match winning try which Diggy again converted for a 20 -11 win.
Openside Blonde beauty Daniel Thomas, another 18 year old, was simply outstanding in everything he did and was closely followed by his back row buddies Allan Powell and Duane Eager.
In fact, under the circumstances, this was a top result and probably the biggest test for Kevin George’s young academy boys, who all stood up to the challenge.
