Llanelli fell short at rain sodden Carmarthen Park in the fourth round of games in the Principality Premiership
Playing with the elements Llanelli looked to be adapting their game to the conditions in the first 25 minutes and took a 9 point lead from three well struck kicks from rookie outside half David Higgins.
In the 26th minute, Quins’ pressured in the Llanelli 22 and a long kick down field seemed the obvious call, however Llanelli were caught in two minds and the eager Quins capitalized with a turnover and good forward pressure, for second row Haydn Pugh to crash over which Rhys Jones converted.
The Llanelli indecision seemed to spur the Quins on further as they then dominated the next 40 minutes of play. Jones kicked two further penalties before halftime before going off injured within 2 minutes of the second half.
Replacement outside half Chris Banfield then dropped a smart goal with his first touch of the ball, to give the Quins a 16 -9 lead.
Higgins then added another penalty and when he kicked his 5th penalty in the 68th minute to bring Llanelli back to 15 – 16 it looked as if the visitors could push on for the win.
However further Llanelli unforced errors enabled the home team to finish the stronger with Quins full back James Stephenson kicking their final penalty for a deserved win.
Llanelli had to be content with a losing bonus point and a lesson learnt in how to adapt to playing in poor conditions.
