Llanelli’s high tempo first half paid great dividends scoring three tries from wing Justin James (14),Nic Reynolds(21) and Justin completing his brace with the last play of the half. Steve Shingler converted one and kicked a penalty and along with the very impressive Aled Davies got the Llanelli backline moving with some sublime passing.
Cardiff replied with an excellent try from hooker Ben Phillips, as he shrugged off several tackle attempts on his way to the whitewash.Ben Morgan will be disappointed he failed to dump the hard running hooker, but nothing will detract from another outstanding ball carrying display from the 21 year old..
The second half started well for Llanelli putting lots of pressure on an over –worked home defence. Ref Hodges was frequently penalising Cardiff and Shingler punished them with an excellent 45 metre kick after 5 minutes. He then missed a longer effort when possibly he could have kicked to the corner to keep up the pressure and forward momentum they were generating. It seemed from that moment on Cardiff played themselves back into the game with lots of continuity play only to come up against the Llanelli wall. Such was the pressure that Cardiff were exerting, either tries or penalties were going to result. However, the organization and determination of the Llanelli defence suggested they were in no mood to concede tries, so Cardiff’s just reward was three penalties from replacement Scott Sneddon.
Ben Morgan and Aled Davies stood out in open play, while the hard work of young 18 year old Rhodri Jones also caught the eye, but it was the whole squad who will take the credit for this fine away win.http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/welsh/8992617.stm
