A fine, all round first half performance saw Llanelli deservedly earn a bonus point before half time, scoring four tries through Nick Reynolds, Captain Craig Hawkins, Gareth Davies and Dominic Day. Ace kicker Steve Shingler kicked three conversions and also added a penalty. Luckless Llandovery could only muster a solitary penalty from Captain Cerith Rees(22min).
Half time Llanelli 29 - 3 Llandovery.
The turning point of the game came on 46 minutes when due to Llandovery front row injuries, Referee Greg Morgan had no option but to play non-contested scrums for the rest of the match. To their credit Llandovery threw caution to the wind in their open approach (with young Lee Rees always a danger) and were rewarded in the 54th minute with an Ifan Evans try which Cerith Rees converted. They then seemed to have scored a perfect try under the posts but the eagle eyed referee Morgan ruled they had not grounded the ball and Llanelli cleared their line.
Llanelli’s dominant pack then began to tightened their approach during the closing stages resulting tries for impressive forwards Aled Hopkins and Ben Morgan with Shingler converting both for a personal tally of lucky 13.
Full time Llanelli 43 - 10 Llandovery.
