Well we managed to hold off a fight back by the Wanderers to earn yet another semi final berth in the Welsh Cup. As you may well know the draw was made live on BBC Wales after the game and we’ve been drawn against Aberavon RFC with the game to be played on the week-end of the 18th / 19th April.
In terms of the game itself, it was, in some ways similar to our game with the Wanderers last week, with visitors pressing hard in the final minutes to claw back what seemed like a comfortable scoreline at 24-13 to Llanelli. The yellow card on 74 mins by No8 Dan Godfrey gave them the impetus to cross for a score between the sticks by centre Simon Rosser to set up a nail biting finish. The Llanelli defence, like last week held strong and indeed a last minute penalty by outside half Luke Richards closed out the game.
Earlier, Luke had kicked four penalty goals and converted a try by skipper Craig Hawkins. Full back Dan Newton was once again extremely reliable and he got on the end of a well worked move to cross for the other Llanelli try. In between, Wanderers kept plugging away and flanker Sam Warburton crossed for an opportunistic try which Scott Sneddon converted. Scott also slotted a couple of goals which then set a the tense closing minutes. In the end, the home side held out to maintain their mantle of “ Cup Kings” – bring on the semi’s !!!
