Kicking dilema

Maesteg RFC v Llanelli RFC Principality Premiership 12/01/08
Llanelli came away from the Old Parish in Maesteg with a solitary losing bonus point as they went down 17 -13 in an error ridden performance. Selection options meant that they had to play the match minus a recognised hooker and outside half but it was their virtual non-existent kicking game which was to prove the difference between the two teams.
Maesteg’s Luke Richards kicked four penalties and cleared his line consistently, although the visitors did manage to goal one well struck penalty from centre Rhys Williams, their kicking out of hand was to be their downfall as they looked so uncomfortable every time they put the ball to boot.
Maesteg wing Grant Epton eventually capitalized when he charged down and scored a good opportunist try, which proved to be decisive.
Llanelli’s backrow of McCusker, Edwards and Godfrey were again impressive as was the back three of Ifan Evans, Matthew Jacobs and Alec Jenkins, with the latter two scoring a try a piece.
Maesteg are proving to be a bogey side for Llanelli, but hopefully lessons will again have be learnt for their visit to Bridgend next Saturday
