03 March 2007 - Bridge Field, Bedwas

Match Report

A Bridge too far

Llanelli failed to come away from Bridge Field with any points as Bedwas wing Mike Silcox broke the deadlock 5 minutes from time with a match winning try after a defence splitting run from from full back Stu Thomas.
In the first period, Llanelli playing against the elements were containing the Bedwas attacks and in a dour contest centre Phil Dolmon kicked a couple of penalties with Llanelli’s Craig Jones kicking one for the visitors.
In the 29th minute wounded scrum half Lee Williams had his box kick charged down by big lock Neil Watkins, who found scrum half Harry Trelawney in support to score, Dolmon adding the conversion for a 13-3 half-time lead.
With the elements Llanelli went immediately on the offensive and Craig Jones kicked his second penalty within a minute of the restart after good work from Adam Powell. Eight minutes later Number 8 Dan Godfrey touched down after good scrummaging 5 metres out, Jones converting superbly from the touchline.
Llanelli seemed to be in the driving seat but again conceded a kickable penalty which Dolmon duly slotted. On 65 minutes Llanelli responded with another penalty success from Jones and 16-16 seemed a result Llanelli would have settled for. However relegation threatened Bedwas had other ideas as Silcox struck to take the 3ponts to the delight of the home supporters.
