Match Preview

Llanelli RFC away day @ Pontypool RFC

Well, the season opener has arrived. Yes, it may be a friendly but this will be a really tough test ahead of our first league game a week on Saturday.
The new squad of Llanelli RFC players will travel up to North Gwent to take on last seasons Championship winning side Pontypool RFC at Pontypool Park. The game is scheduled to kick off next Saturday at 2.30pm and I'm sure the boys will be keen and eager to stake a claim for a spot on the team sheet in next week's first Premiership game against the Quins. They will certainly be looking to impress the new coaching set up! As is always the case, a number of players have moved on or retired and to those who have, we wish them well. To the new squad players coming in, a warm welcome to one and all and good luck for the challenge ahead.
We played 'Pooler' in last seasons Swalec cup and on the day they had too much for us, but as you would expect it was a very entertaining and competitive game. Whilst this friendly may not have that edge, I'm sure both sides will be working very hard to secure the win. They had a fantastic season last year, winning all but one of their championship games and they must have the desire this year to try to go unbeaten in the league - They are a Premiership side in waiting!
So, why not come along and support the new look semi pros as they kick off their 17/18 season.
As always we thankyou for your loyal and continued support and look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
