Our next Principality Premiership game is next Saturday at the Wern, we take on the current Champions Merthyr RFC in what I’m sure will be a thoroughly entertaining game. Due to the 6 nations finale, our game will kick off at 12.30pm to then enable everyone to catch the Wales v France game later.
After our much needed win at the ‘parc’ last week the boys will be looking forward to the challenge that the current Premiership champions will undoubtedly present come Saturday. The win against Bargoed was a real morale booster and I’m sure a relief for everyone involved at the club. It was a real team effort and if we are to get something from the game at the Wern, more (and some!) of the same will be required.
Our opponents Merthyr are the current Principality Champions having won the league in fine style last May. They are an excellent team, well coached with some very experienced rugby players in their squad. Until last week, they were on a fantastic run of results winning 16 games on the bounce! Had it not been for an 85th minute penalty goal by Matt O’Brian for Newport they unbeaten run in the league would have continued. But, on the day, Newport proved that they can be beaten!
So, if you can make the trip to Merthyr for this early kick off it would be great to see you there. As always we are extremely grateful for all your support and let’s look for a positive result come 2.15pm Saturday.
oh, and of course good luck Wales, 2nd spot in 6 nations up for grabs.
