Well, here we are again, another Principality Premiership season is on the horizon. A little earlier than usual but it makes for a super start to the Bank Holiday weekend, a clash with Carmarthen Quins at the 'Parc' on Saturday afternoon - should be a really entertaining affair! Kick off is scheduled for 2.30pm so why not come along to support the town semi pros.
For those who may be unaware, its a new look Premiership this year with the league splitting into an East & West section each comprising of 8 teams. As you'd expect we're in with our fellow regionalists, The Quins and Llandovery, with Swansea, Neath, Aberavon, RGC and Bridgend making up the remainder. In the first half of the season we play each other twice then the league comes together in the second half of the season. It will once again be interesting to see how the revised structure pans out.
But, on to Saturdays game against the Quins. As always a warm welcome awaits all the players, officials and travelling supporters. It goes without saying that both camps will be more than keen to get off to winning ways so we should be in for a cracking regional encounter. I'm sure both sides will look to play some attractive running rugby, as is the usual trademark for this fixture. If it's anything like the Pontypool friendly last weekend where our blend of new, combined with the tried and tested scored some really good tries against last seasons Championship winners. Yes, it was a friendly, but it was at times a 'bit tasty' so a good workout and I'm sure provided much discussion for our new coaching team this week ahead of selection for Saturday.
As always the Quins will bring an experienced, well organised and talented side to Parc-y-Scarlets. In recent times they've had just a bit too much for us and they will be looking to maintain their recent series of results against us. Like ourselves, a somewhat disappointing season for them last year but as I've said, we're into a new restructured campaign and that will have been long forgotten. No doubt, like ourselves some new and familiar faces will get to put on the Quins shirt this year - keep an eye out, maybe you'll recognise some 'old boys' so to speak!
So, it all kicks off on Saturday, round 1 of Premiership action. Everyone at Llanelli RFC looks forward to seeing you all once again and as I've said on many occasions many thanks for your continued support, see you Saturday.
